Jasper CountyHistory of our programs In the fall of 1996 the Big Brothers Big Sisters programs in Newton began. This office serves children in five elementary schools in Newton and one in Colfax-Mingo. The programs here are lent a helping hand by many community partners including, Newton YMCA, Jasper County United Way, Newton Community Theatre, SYNC and RSVP. Our specific needs The Jasper County is in need of both Bigs and Littles. The need for Community Based Big Brothers and Big Sisters is the highest priority. Becoming a Big is easy! With as little as four hours a month you can make a huge difference in the life of a child. These volunteers must be at least 18 years old and must commit four hours a month to the program. School Based Mentoring Locations • Berg Elementary School – Located in Newton • Aurora Heights Elementary School – Located in Newton • Emerson Hough Elementary School – Located in Newton • Thomas Jefferson Elementary School – Located in Newton • Woodrow Wilson Elementary School – Located in Newton • Colfax-Mingo Elementary School – Located in Colfax Our Events Saturday, September 5th: NASCAR Camping World Truck Series: Volunteer shifts available from 12pm to 8:45pm (Race begins at 8:45pm). Includes free admission (standing room only) to that day’s race. Must commit to a minimum of 4 hours of ticket sales at the event.
