Marketing/Communications Coordinator 9051 Swanson Blvd. Clive, Iowa 50325 Phone: 515.288.9025 x232 Fax: 515.288.6191 About Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa helps vulnerable children beat the odds. The organization depends on donations to help recruit volunteers and reach more children. Funding is used to conduct background checks on volunteers to ensure child safety; and provide ongoing support for children, families and volunteers to build and sustain long-lasting relationships. Big Brothers Big Sisters is proven to improve children’s odds for succeeding in school, behaving nonviolently, avoiding drugs and alcohol and breaking negative cycles.
2,011 by 2011 is a five-year campaign which began in 2006. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa’s Board of Directors and staff strategically developed the plan to double the number of children mentored in five years. In order to match 2,011 children with a mentor by year 2011, there are three vital components: Littles (children in need of mentors), Bigs (mentors) and funding sources (money). Finding children in need, unfortunately, is not an issue. In fact, there are typically more than 200 children waiting to be matched with a mentor and the list keeps growing. As an agency, we are always recruiting mentors and thankfully, we have a community who’s very generous with their time. Our 2009 goal is to mentor 1,600 children, which will keep BBBSCI on track to meet the five-year goal of 2,011. The final piece is funding to support these matches. With your help we can make the magic happen and change the lives of 2,011 children in central Iowa.
Annual funds are needed to support BBBSCI’s Mentoring Programs Community Based Mentoring: a match between a mentor or multiple individuals (Big Duo or Big Family) and a child which takes place independently within the community Annual expense: $1,000/match School Based Mentoring: a match that takes place at a school Annual expense: $600/match Press Releases
